Innovations and trends for e-fulfilment on the agenda at EDC 2016

Decision makers from Royal Mail, Amazon, Alibaba, feelunique, Tesco, Mothercare, ASDA, M&S, John Lewis, Barbour, Wayfair, Ocado, and FedEx Cross Border, among others, will join the board-level discussion at the eDelivery Conference (EDC) this year.

The retail fulfilment and operations conference, taking place on October 11 at Novotel Hammersmith, will bring together supply chain leaders who are reinventing traditional operational structures, the event organisers say. They will be addressing the latest trends and developments, as well as the best strategies for the ‘S-O-L-D’ (Supply Chain, Operations, Logistics and Delivery) industry.

An opening keynote session led by John Lewis head of central operations and transport Ben Farrell, MBE, and Amazon UK fulfilment director Katie McQuaid, will focus on Strategy. It will give attendees a glimpse into the inner workings of the retail boardroom, in particular, addressing how to re-invent traditional logistics models, together with their opportunities and costs, to better suit customers’ demands.

2016_edelivery_london_logoSome of the key learning tracks with deployable, practical advice will also be seen at the Roundtables, where several industry experts will explore how to improve operational performance.

John Lewis head of customer delivery model and direct to customer operations Edward Osborne will be leading a roundtable on the advantages of dropship deliveries against other more established methods of fulfilment. Among others, he will be joined by M&S head of online performance Kamal Bal, exploring strategies to put customer experience at the heart of online; Barbour head of distribution Paul Johnson-Barnett discussing how to crack international markets through fulfilment; and Intershop enterprise architect Nils Breitmann presenting solutions to manage complex order flows.

Visitors attending the show will also get a first-hand look at the latest research and technology, looking at where the future lies for fulfilment and multichannel operations, the organisers add. Industry innovators and analysts like IMRG, Electio and Pitney Bowes will be sharing their reports on the costs associated with failing to meet customers’ expectations in delivery, customer behaviour and the arts and science of shipping.

The show is intended to help retailers better understand logistics and supply chain complexities to convert the latest demands of the ‘always on’, ‘anytime, anywhere’ consumer into a competitive opportunity.

Complementary to EDC, the eleventh InternetRetailing Conference (IRC) – taking place on October 12 at the same venue – will focus on all the new key retail, ecommerce and mobile trends, as well as the developments that are currently shaping the multichannel landscape.
